2023 Youth Symphony Concerto Competition
Congratulations Katie Anderson, piano, winner of the 2023 Larry Garrett Youth Symphony Concerto Competition!
Katie performed the first movement of Concerto #1 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with accompanist Crystal Zimmerman. She received a cash prize of $500 and will perform with the Youth Symphony during our spring concert.

2023 Youth Symphony Concerto Winner
Katie Anderson is a homeschool senior. She studied piano under Ruth Richard for eleven years and currently studies under Dr. Crystal Zimmerman. She has participated in various musical activities including OMTA programs, accompanying choir, and volunteering at community centers. She has gone to state and placed first in Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Ensemble festivals; she has also completed all NFMC, theory, and Syllabus exams to the highest level with superior ratings and distinction. Along with piano, Katie takes private violin lessons and has been with the Salem Youth Symphony for the past five years. Katie plans to pursue piano performance in college. In her free time, Katie loves cooking, reading, and spending time with her beloved dog, Sadie.
